Ossabaw Island Hogs

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while!

Anyway, here’s a farm news flash: as of September 30th, we have aquired two Ossabaw Island feeder pigs from Historic Brattonsville’s farm! (I’m hoping to get 2-3 of their Gulf Coast Native lambs in the spring too.)

Ossabaw Island Hogs are a heritage breed of pigs that are considered critically endangered by The Livestock Conservancy. This breed is particularly exceptional in silvopasturing and in the production of cured meat products.

When feeder pigs are purchased, it encourages breeders to raise more animals to promote the survival of this genetically important breed of pig. Our pigs should be butcher weight (~175 lbs) around April-May 2015.
